ICC Hawaii: Transform Your Life
Learn English and transform your life at ICC in Hawaii

English Only Policy

Intercultural Communications College Hawaii is an English Only Zone!

What is the "English Only" Policy?

The "English Only" policy helps everyone at ICC improve their English.

While you are at school and on school activities or events you will speak English and ONLY English. Writing, reading, speaking or listening to another language are not permitted in school or on school activities and events.

How does it work?

On your first day at ICC you must pay a $25 English Only deposit in cash. You will have to pay your English Only deposit before you can receive your ICC student ID card. With your ICC student ID card you can receive discounts at Hawaii shops and restaurants, and on student bus passes.

Inside your student mailbox folder is an "English Only Violations" form:

English Only Violations Form

  • Every time that you speak a language other than English at ICC, or on ICC activities and events, a violation will be noted on this form.
  • A $5 fine will be deducted from your $25 English Only deposit for each violation.
  • If you receive 5 violations you will be required to make another $25 cash deposit before you can return to class.
  • Any unused part of your English Only deposit will be refunded to you in cash on your last day of class. ICC will not mail or wire transfer deposits to you after your departure from ICC.

ICC will donate all money from your English Only violations to charity. You will have a choice of local and international charities. Here are some of the charitable organizations that we currently partner with:

Global Impact: Assuring help for people in need
Africare: specializing in aid to Africa
Habitat for Humanity: Building homes and hope for families
Hawaii Foodbank: Feeding the Hawaii Ohana
World Vision: Building a better world for children
